Frequently Asked Questions

1.) Is Naturopathic Medicine for me?

Naturopathic Medicine is a holistic system of medicine that really combines the physical, mental and emotional aspects of your health to help you feel your best. Naturopathic medicine requires that you be a partner in your healthcare journey because ultimately, the healing comes from you. However, you can never be too sick, too old or too young for Naturopathic Medicine!

2.) What should I expect for my first visit?

The first visit usually lasts about 1-1.5 hours and includes a comprehensive review of your health history and an evaluation of previously done labs and imaging. We will come up with a plan at this visit so that you can immediately begin taking steps to improve your health.

3.) How many visits will I need?

This really depends on your particular situation and health concern. We often follow up monthly until you are feeling your best and then you can come in throughout the year as needed to further address your health concerns or receive treatments for new symptoms that come up!

4.) Are Naturopaths covered by Insurance?

While Naturopaths are licensed in 18 states (and growing!) in the states of Virginia and New York, Naturopaths are not yet licensed as primary care physicians and are unable to accept insurance at this time. However, we are working hard to obtain licensure in these states so that we can better serve you! To learn more about these licensure efforts please visit and

5.) Can you prescribe Medications or order labs for me?

Because Naturopaths are not yet licensed in New York and Virginia we cannot run Labs or prescribe medications. However, we are happy to recommend certain labs and medications that we think may be beneficial and you can consult with your medical doctor.

6.) What sets a naturopath apart from other healthcare professionals?

A licensed and registered ND (Dr. Katherine is Licensed in Oregon where she was trained) has received at least 4 years of post- graduate training from an accredited naturopathic medical institution. Training includes rigorous clinical and medical sciences, natural therapeutic methods of healing, extensive clinical experience and we are required to pass national basic science and clinical board exams. It is my opinion that we are some of the most qualified practitioners to blend the holistic and traditional medical worlds.

7.) What health conditions do Naturopaths treat?

Because Naturopathic medicine is a holistic system that treats the whole person (and not just your symptoms) we are well suited to help with all health conditions. If you have a question about your particular condition please contact Dr. Katherine.

8.) Are you able or willing to work with my Medical Doctor, Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Massage therapist or other Health Practitioner?

Yes, absolutely! Integrative care is extremely important and Dr. Katherine is more than willing to communicate with your healthcare team to ensure that you are receiving the best treatments for your overall health.
